Job Summary

Position is a part-time, temporary summer position for up to six weeks. Two positions are available (1 male, 1 female). Summer program dates are June 4 – July 2, 2018 with a half-day training the week of May 21st (specific training date TBD). Typical work week is Mon-Thu evenings, with overnight stay in dormitory.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent

Completion of one full-time semester of college with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher

Experience supervising youth and developing youth activities

Computer literacy

Knowledge of video/audio equipment

Strong communication and leadership skills

Must be positive role model for high school students

Ability to work well with others

Preferred Qualifications

Two or more years of college with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher

Prior experience living in a residence hall

Essential Functions

Must live in the residence halls at Midland College for five weeks and provide supervision to project participants; varied hours Monday-Thursday evenings with overnight stay in dormitory

Establish and maintain positive, respectful, mentoring relationships with Upward Bound students

Collaborate with other residence hall assistants to develop, implement, and supervise scheduled recreational activities

Supervise Upward Bound students during field trips and activities

Assist with Awards Ceremony on July 10, 2018

Assist with supervision of youth during end-of-summer program trip that is scheduled for July 12-16

Monitor visitor access to residence hall as well as participant movement in and out of the building and between floors

Maintain a notebook on students to be evaluated each Thursday

Assure that participants complete daily homework

Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands

Must be able to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds

Ability to walk long distances

Use of manual dexterity

Occasional field trip by bus

Min Salary 9.50 per hour
Max Salary 9.50 per hour
