Job Summary

Primary duties include responsibility for cultivation of dynamic educational component of the Continuing Education Department in the area of law enforcement training. Responsible for development of outstanding continuing education programs for law enforcement community. Plan, organize, direct, and manage the programs and operations of the Law Enforcement Training Academy and Training Program. These programs are licensed and credentialed by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) and subject to the requirements of the applicable Government Code, Texas Occupation Code, and TCOLE statutes and rules.

Required Qualifications

Must possess a valid TCOLE Peace Officer License in Texas and have required in-service training hours to be licensed as an Advanced Peace Officer (or above)

Must possess a TCOLE Instructor License

Must possess a valid Texas driver license, good driving record, and be insurable on Midland College’s insurance policy

Completion of TCOLE personal history statement with successful approval by the Academic Advisory Board

Preferred Qualifications

Master Peace Officer

Associate’s Degree or higher in Criminal Justice or related field from an accredited college/university

Essential Functions

Provide executive leadership to the law enforcement training academy

Coordinate the activities of the Academy Advisory Board, schedule, attend and record all meetings

Develop, analyze, and implement operational guidelines

Review and maintain training records and qualifications for the academy staff and instructors

Schedule and provide for in service training required by TCOLE for area law enforcement officers and keep current and updated (posted) training calendar of academy events and classes

Develop a standard for accepting cadets into the program

Maintain accurate and organized training records for cadets (current and past)

Maintain up to date training material as mandated by TCOLE regulations

Develop relationships among law enforcement entities within Midland College Service area, and surrounding counties and communities of Pecos County

Manage the administrative and logistical matters, to include facilities, equipment, and safety

Coordinate curriculum development and updates for law enforcement training academy and law enforcement continuing education instruction and programming

Work with Midland College Criminal Justice Department for review of curricula

Coordinate with all WRTTC Faculty and staff to ensure teamwork and cooperation to express needs of program and share educational resources

Monitors and directs training program requirements mandated by TCOLE

Assists in identifying outside funding sources and in preparing proposals and grant applications and manages compliance and tracking of grant awards

Liaison with appropriate State agencies responsible for law enforcement education and training, to include the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement

Conducts instructor training to ensure program continuity and quality of education

Responsible for student recruitment and counseling

Provide reports and briefings as required to State and Federal Agencies

Maintain security and accountability of safety sensitive equipment and other accountable inventory, to include vehicles, firearms, ammunition and personal information relating to students and faculty

Work with instructors and staff to resolve student issues and complaints in compliance with the College’s policies and procedures

Attend workplace regularly, report to work punctually and follow a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite

Complete duties and responsibilities in compliance with college standards, policies and guidelines

Complete all required training and pertinent professional development sessions sponsored by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) and attend annual TCOLE Conference

Duties will include classroom instruction and other associated responsibilities

Competent in use of technology and software used in office environment

Maintain confidentiality

Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands

Work hours may include evenings, holidays or weekends depending on deadline requirements and special events

Ability to work extended hours, as needed

Must be able to lift or move up to 25 pounds

Use of manual dexterity

Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time

Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation

Duties performed both indoors and outdoors

Attendance at Midland College and community events may be required

Travel for training, conferences, meetings and events both in and out of town will be required

Min Salary 25.00 per hour
