Job Summary

The Welcome Center and Outreach Specialist works under the supervision of the Director of Welcome Center & Outreach. The Specialist is a key, front-line representative for the College who provides exemplary customer service to its external and internal customers. The Specialist provides general coverage for the College’s Welcome Center, directing and providing information to students, staff, and visitors on the telephone, electronically, and at the Welcome Center. The Welcome Center Specialist performs clerical duties as required by the Director of Outreach and Welcome Center.

Required Qualifications

Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the College’s mission and the needs of students

High school diploma or equivalent

Two years customer service experience

Two years general office/clerical experience

Knowledge of general office equipment

Demonstrated computer literacy including Microsoft Office and Outlook

Strong organizational and public relations skills

Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills

Must be energetic, enthusiastic and team-oriented

Must be able to handle fast-paced work environment with interruptions and detail-oriented tasks

Preferred Qualifications

Associate’s degree or equivalent

Minimum of one year of experience working in a student services area

Data entry and document imaging experience

Experience with Jenzabar EX software and Jenzabar Recruitment Module (JRM)

Essential Functions

Serve as initial contact for student and public inquiries via phone, email, chatting, and walk-in traffic

Greet and direct Welcome Center walk-in traffic, providing general information and assisting students with the online application process as needed

Use Jenzabar EX and Jenzabar Recruitment Module (student information system) as required to track student information and activity

General office duties including mail outs, telephone communications, electronic filing, emailing and interacting with the public

Process budget requisitions, purchase orders and direct payments; order supplies and track budget expenditures for department

Maintain comprehensive knowledge of the College’s instructional programs, student services processes, events, and off-site facilities

Work effectively in a fast-paced, high volume and confidential environment by multi-tasking and with frequent interruptions

Communicate accurate, comprehensive, and timely information to students, potential students, and visitors

Maintain adequate supplies of College material for the Welcome Center

Use computers and related software for word processing, spreadsheets, and database management

Provide other clerical assistance as assigned

Participate in campus tours and recruitment activities, as needed

Practice exemplary customer service skills when interacting with the public, students, prospective students and colleagues

Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands

Ability to lift or move up to 25 pounds

Must be able to work extended hours during periods of registration and Midland College or community events

Work mostly performed indoors, some outdoor Midland College or community events may be required

Work both on campus and off campus

Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time

Use of manual dexterity

Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation

Travel for training, meetings, and events both in and out of town may be required

Min Salary 2401.75 per month
