Job Summary

Program Chair is responsible for the instructional disciplines of the Health Information Management program (Associate of Applied Science degree and certificates) and the Health Services Management program (Bachelor of Applied Science).

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in related field

Certification as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)

College teaching experience in a discipline under supervision

Experience in online teaching/learning

Knowledge of basic computer applications

Knowledge of instructional disciplines under supervision

Knowledge and understanding of curriculum development and implementation

Ability to communicate effectively, both written and oral

Preferred Qualifications

Doctoral degree

Previous experience as a program director in an academic setting

Knowledge of budget, scheduling, purchasing, and academic catalog processes

Knowledge of faculty evaluation

Familiar with student and academic support services

Knowledge and understanding of program and course assessment

Essential Functions

Act as the first point of contact for student and faculty issues for the programs supervised

Fulfill faculty roles and responsibilities as outlined in Midland College Policy 02:01:01

Establish and maintain a positive, effective working relationship with students, staff, faculty, and other stakeholders

Organize and administer the programs under supervision

Participate in student recruitment activities to promote the programs supervised

Seek opportunities to market the programs to individuals, groups, and industry and community leaders

Oversee student advisement and admissions to the program

Supervise and evaluate faculty and staff

Participate in retention strategies to promote student success

Develop and evaluate the curriculum

Oversee continuous program review, planning and development

Develop schedule for offering courses each semester

Serve on college committees

Develop and oversee education/practice relationships with clinical agencies

Ensure student compliance with pre-clinical requirements

Update the college catalog and online program pages for programs supervised

Plan the biannual program advisory committee meetings and collaborate with the advisory committee to ensure committee involvement in the programs

Develop and/or oversee the development of new courses and revision of current courses as needed

Hire adjuncts to teach class sections as applicable

Develop and manage discipline budgets with oversight by divisional dean

Perform all functions of a full-time faculty member

Teach classes and labs with a lecture equivalent hour (LEH) requirement commensurate with the program curriculum including six-hours release time each fall and spring semester. Summer instruction is required. Overload is paid according to Midland College Policy 02:01:06.

Oversee purchasing as needed for appropriate disciplines

With faculty input, select instructional materials appropriate for the programs

Review, evaluate and revise program-related materials such as brochures, packets and student handbook

Ensure availability of current and consistent course guides and syllabi

Oversee orientation and training of new faculty and staff

Ensure compliance with The Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM)

Prepare reports as applicable for Midland College and accrediting bodies

Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands

Standing and sitting for long and short periods, walking within office suite, building to building, etc.

Ability to lift, push and pull up to 30 lbs.

Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation

Use of manual dexterity

Work in office setting and online teaching environment

Min Salary 60,000 per year
Max Salary 65,000 per year
Pay Statement Salary is commensurate with educational qualifications and experience.
