Job Summary

The Instructional Designer is responsible for providing pedagogical and technological support for faculty to assure quality in the design and delivery of distance learning courses. The Instructional Designer provides consultation and support in the following areas: use of instructional technologies in distance learning courses, distance learning course design and delivery, creation and selection of instructional resources, faculty preparation for distance learning course delivery, and content accessibility.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in instructional design, instructional technology or related field

Minimum of 2 years experience in instructional design in higher education

Minimum of 3 years experience in distance learning, teaching online/hybrid/interactive video conference classes

Experience in developing and conducting instructor-led training

Proficient in use of a Learning Management System and standard office software applications

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

Certificate in Online Instruction

Quality Matters Certifications (Facilitator, Peer or Master Reviewer)

Knowledge of multimedia development or video creation/editing software

Knowledge of web accessibility issues, including understanding of W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, and other applicable laws and standards

Essential Functions

Collaborates with faculty and provides professional development and technical assistance with instructional design of distance learning courses (online, hybrid, and interactive video conference)

Coordinates the program for preparing faculty for teaching distance learning courses

Collaborates with faculty and provides training and technical assistance with the implementation of Quality Matters

Collaborates with faculty and provides training and technical assistance with the development and revision of distance learning courses to meet quality standards

Coordinates the Midland College quality assurance course review process

Evaluates instructional technology tools and software applications for possible adoption to meet emerging needs, and assist with the implementation, training, and on-going support for selected tools

Provides professional development and technical support for faculty on educational best practices for instructional technologies and media resources to support instruction

Assists faculty in the selection and use of technology to enhance learning in online, hybrid, and web-enhanced environments

Collaborates with faculty and provides training and technical assistance in the creation of accessible materials in a variety of formats including Word, PowerPoint, PDFs, multimedia, and learning management system content to ensure accessibility of distance learning courses

Other duties as assigned

Min Salary 49,500 per year
Max Salary 54,500 per year
Pay Statement Salary is commensurate with educational qualifications and experience.
